About

In 2010, Julie pursued her passion by launching Julie Dalton Design; she could just have easily become an architect or an engineer. Julie has that kind of effortless energy that makes you believe she could do most anything she sets her mind to, and she has.

After several years in Silicon Valley, helping to place executives at the helm of powerhouses like Apple and Microsoft, Julie set her sights on a more significant role—motherhood + the design/build of the family’s home. The result is a stunning, contemporary mission-style home in the heart of Mill Valley, where she lives with her husband and three active teenagers. The family’s home serves as the launch pad for Julie Dalton Design, and is a showpiece that continues to inspire clients today.

Julie has deftly balanced her firm’s projects while simultaneously managing the interior design services for renowned California architectural firm, Chambers & Chambers, from 2013-2019. An ultra-marathoner, she has also carved out time to compete in the Double and Quad Dipsea, roughly 9,000 rugged, harrowing feet of vertical, packed into 28 miles.

Born in Bristol, England, Julie’s family moved to the U.S. when she was a child, stopping in Wyoming before landing in California as a teen. Her father’s job led to frequent moves, and while the houses changed, there was one distinct design feature that didn’t—a beautiful staircase in the entryway.

“Running really long distances has shown me that I am capable of so much more than I ever imagined.”

Julie now lives in her “forever home,” thoughtfully designed for the needs of her active family and her love for entertaining; the welcoming entry is anchored by an elegant staircase.

Philosophy

Julie Dalton Design is a full service interior design firm, specializing in residential projects throughout Northern California including Marin, Wine Country and Tahoe.

Julie’s designs are timeless and modern, beautifully blending everyday function with a fresh aesthetic. Drawing inspiration from natural landscape and light, Julie’s interiors are gracefully balanced, creating a cohesive and calm flow that complements California’s relaxed indoor-outdoor lifestyle. Most importantly, she presents a visual narrative that’s warm and inviting because, “your home is your sanctuary.”

How we work

A self-professed math geek, who possesses equal parts linear and creative thinking, Julie has an impeccable eye for design and attention for detail. You’re just as likely to see her studying architectural drawings as you are to see her walking the floors of the Design Center. She has a gift for scale and spatial relations. She sees everything.

She serves as the liaison between her clients, and the project architects and contractors. Julie’s precision ensures projects run more efficiently and accurately, ultimately saving valuable time and money by “doing it right the first time.”
